Just after our tenth anniversary (in 2001) my husband and I bought a large home together with his widowed mother and established an extended-family household. When my mother-in-law's health began to fail, I became her primary caregiver. I am now writing a collection of essays, titled Seek Shelter, about the struggles and intimacies of the last years of my mother-in-law's life.
Chapters from Seek Shelter have been published in the following journals:
Under the Sun, "The Baptism" (2008)
Ascent, "Autumn Sage" (2009)
Brevity, "Comfort Food" (forthcoming, Fall 2010)
The Gettysburg Review, "Stranger in Blood" (forthcoming 2010)
