Client Testimonial
08/20/09
This just in from Beth Westmark, who recently finished a critique package with me. "Your package of editing critiques, comments, suggestions, ideas, instruction, and book/journal lists has a much higher value than the cost. Thanks to working with and learning from you, my essay is vastly improved. More importantly, however, my concept of creative nonfiction has experienced a sea change.
Your editor's voice is in my head permanently now, and that is a very good thing! You helped me think through why I want to write, where I want to go with it, and how to get there."

"Torn Veil," which was honored as notable writing in The Best American Writing 2008, has also been listed as writing of "special mention" in the current Pushcart anthology. Fellow Rainier Writing Workshop MFA participants Bill Capposere and Barrie Jean Borich also received this honor, as did my friend Chris Fisher whose work appeared in Relief Journal. The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses is an annual anthology honoring the best fiction, poetry, and essays published by small presses in the previous year.

The Best American Spiritual Writing 2008
9/20/08
This weekend I picked up my copy of Houghton Mifflin's 2008 volume of The Best American Spiritual Writing and, as is my usual habit, scanned the table of contents to see whose work was selected and if, perhaps, the editors forgot to tell me that they selected my work. Nope. But when I flipped to the fine-print listing of "notable spiritual writing" near the back of the volume, I did find my name listed! I received mention for "Torn Veil," which appeared in Relief Journal one year ago.
